BATHROOM TILING SERVICES
Bathroom Tilers in Auckland
Most bathroom tiling jobs involve a tiler, a waterproofer and a tile supplier who don't talk to each other. We handle all three in-house.
Cutting Edge Tiling is a specialist bathroom tiling company based in Silverdale, Auckland, founded by Ethan Legget in 2013. We install wall, floor, shower and splashback tiling across Auckland, the North Shore, Whangaparāoa, Warkworth and Mangawhai, with PS3-certified waterproofing and a 10-year guarantee on every job.
WHY CUTTING EDGE
Ten-year guarantee, PS3 waterproofing, one team
A 10-year guarantee on every job
Most tiling workmanship guarantees in New Zealand run one to two years. Ours runs ten. If something we've installed fails inside that window, we come back and fix it. The guarantee covers workmanship on every bathroom we tile, residential or commercial.
The Tile Room handles your supply
We work directly with The Tile Room on every job. They manage the supply chain end-to-end, including grout-colour matching. You pick the tiles; we handle the logistics behind them. No chasing a supplier for a late delivery that holds up your builder.
PS3-certified waterproofing, in-house
Our team includes Auckland Council PS3 authors and Certified Waterproofers. We waterproof your shower and wet areas ourselves before a single tile goes down, so you're not coordinating a separate trade and we're not waiting on one either.
Natural stone is a specialty, not a surcharge
Marble, granite, limestone, travertine and slate are harder to install than porcelain. The veining doesn't forgive a bad cut and the material doesn't forgive a rushed setting bed. We install natural stone bathrooms regularly and it's one of the things clients come to us for specifically.
SERVICES
Our Bathroom Tiling Services
We tile every surface in a bathroom. Most of our jobs cover all four of the services below, but we're happy to take on single-scope work- a new shower, a splashback replacement, a floor-only refresh.
Bathroom Wall Tiling
Full-height, half-height or feature-wall only. We install large-format porcelain, subway tile, mosaic, rectified tile and natural stone on bathroom walls, with tight grout lines and level courses across the whole room. Tile selection and quantities are handled through The Tile Room.
Shower Tiling & Waterproofing
Shower walls, shower floors, niches, benches and linear drains - tiled and waterproofed by the same team. Our PS3-certified waterproofing is signed off in-house, so there's no second trade to coordinate and no gap between membrane and tile setter.
Bathroom Floor Tiling
Heated or unheated, wet-area or dry. We set bathroom floors with the correct fall to the waste, level transitions at doorways, and a substrate that's prepared properly before a tile goes down. See our floor tiling page for full floor-only scope.
Bathroom Splashback Tiling
Vanity splashbacks in mosaic, glass, natural stone or large-format porcelain. We mitre external corners, keep grout lines aligned with the vanity edges, and match grout colour to the tile through The Tile Room's range.
OUR PROCESS
How We Run a Bathroom Tiling Project
Every bathroom we tile runs through the same five stages.
Consult and quote
We talk through scope and timeline, visit the site to measure and check the substrate, then send through an itemised quote. Every line is broken out: preparation, waterproofing, tiling, grout, materials, so you can see what you're paying for before you commit.
Tile selection at The Tile Room
You visit The Tile Room in Albany and choose your tiles with their team. They handle quantities, lead times, pallet placement, delivery dates and grout-colour matching. We receive the order and schedule it against the build.
Waterproofing
Our in-house PS3-certified waterproofers apply the membrane and sign off the wet areas. No second trade to coordinate. No gap between the waterproofer and the tile setter.
Installation
The lead tiler sets out the room, confirms the pattern and coursing with you, then installs the tile. We work across natural stone, rectified, large-format and mosaic, and keep the site clean throughout.
Handover
Final grout, silicone, clean-down, walkthrough and sign-off. The 10-year workmanship guarantee is activated on handover.
MATERIALS
Bathroom Tile Materials We Install
Natural stone
Marble, granite, limestone, travertine and slate. A specialty of ours, often used on feature walls, vanity splashbacks and full-floor installations where the stone is the centrepiece of the room.
Porcelain
Dense, low-absorption, suitable for walls, floors and showers. Large-format porcelain (600×1200mm and up) minimises grout lines in small bathrooms. Sits under most of our Auckland bathroom installs.
Mosaic
Glass, stone and porcelain mosaics on mesh sheets. Used on shower floors (the extra grout lines add grip), feature walls and splashback strips.
Custom tile
Do you have an idea in mind and want a flexible tiler for bathrooms? Cutting Edge Tiling works with The Tile Room to create custom solutions tailored to your space.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
Client Feedback
★★★★★ 5.0 on Google
Ethan and his team were fantastic to work with on my client's bathroom renovation. Their attention to detail was exceptional, and it made the entire project run smoothly. It was a pleasure collaborating with them, and I'll definitely be turning to them as my go-to tilers for future projects. Highly recommend!
This company is amazing. All of their quotes were fully itemised and Ethan was happy to explain and interpret some of the more technical aspects of the job. The tiles themselves were laid with great care and complex shapes around door thresholds were easily managed. The biggest compliment I can give is that I have recommended them to all my friends who are upgrading their bathrooms or kitchens.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The answers builders, designers and homeowners ask us most often before a job starts.
-
Most residential bathrooms take 6 to 10 working days to tile, including waterproofing. Simpler bathrooms can finish in 5 days; larger bathrooms with natural stone, complex patterns or detailed niches can run to 12 or more. We give you a specific day-count with your itemised quote.
-
Yes. Our in-house team holds Auckland Council PS3 author status and Certified Waterproofer qualifications, so we apply the membrane and sign off the wet areas before tiling begins. You don't need to book a separate waterproofing trade.
-
We supply the tiles through our partnership with The Tile Room. You visit their showroom to choose your tiles with their team, and they handle quantities, lead times, delivery, pallet placement and grout-colour matching. You're welcome to supply your own tiles if you'd prefer.
-
In some cases, yes, if the existing tiles are sound, well-bonded, and the substrate behind them is solid. We check this on site before quoting. Overlay tiling adds height to the floor, so doorways, thresholds and fixtures may need adjustment.
-
Full-height tiling is more expensive upfront but removes the painted wall above the tile line, which is the surface that usually shows wear first in a bathroom. It's the right choice for high-moisture bathrooms and en-suites. Half-height tiling still works well in powder rooms and low-use bathrooms.
-
Our 10-year guarantee covers workmanship on every bathroom we tile - installation, grouting and waterproofing. If something we've installed fails inside that window, we return to fix it. The guarantee is activated on handover and applies to both residential and commercial work.
-
Both. About half our work comes through builders, project managers and architects on residential and commercial builds. Get in touch with Ethan directly for subcontractor enquiries, quotes on plans, or to discuss a build that hasn't started yet.
-
Yes. Rectified tiles have mechanically squared edges, which lets us run grout lines as tight as 1.5mm for a cleaner modern finish. The substrate needs to be dead flat for rectified tiles to sit right, so we prep carefully before setting starts.
