FLOOR TILING SERVICES

Experienced Floor Tilers in Auckland

We've been tiling Auckland floors since 2013. Our 15-person team handles waterproofing, tiling and underfloor heating in-house, so you're not coordinating three trades to get one floor finished.

We're Auckland Council approved PS3 authors and Certified Waterproofers, and we supply tiles through The Tile Room, which means quantities, lead times and grout colours all run through us. Every floor we install carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee. We work across residential renovations, commercial fitouts and construction partnerships, in tile types from ceramic through to natural stone.

WHY CUTTING EDGE

One team for tiling, waterproofing and underfloor heating

Most tiling jobs involve at least three trades: a waterproofer, a tiler, and (if heating is in scope) an underfloor heating installer. We do all three with our own crew, so when something on site needs adjusting, and it always does, we adjust on the spot. Builders don't have to chase three different trades to line it back up.

— 01 / Supply

Supply through The Tile Room

We supply tiles through The Tile Room. That means quantities, lead times, delivery dates, pallet placement and grout colour selection are handled by us, not pushed back to you. You see and feel the tiles in their showroom before you commit, and you don't chase a separate supplier.

— 02 / Stone

Specialists in natural stone

Stone tile is the hardest flooring material to install well. It's not uniform, the cuts can chip, and the layout has to be planned around the veining. We've spent years getting good at it, and it's one of the reasons builders bring us back for premium projects.

— 03 / Credentials

Verifiable credentials

We're Auckland Council approved PS3 authors and Certified Waterproofers. Both can be checked, which matters when you're tiling a wet area and the work has to pass inspection.

— 04 / Guarantee

A 10-year workmanship guarantee

Every floor we install is covered for 10 years on workmanship. If something we did goes wrong inside that window, we come back and fix it. If you want to talk to Ethan and our team directly, Ethan takes the calls on 021 268 0677.

SERVICES

Choosing the right floor tile for each room

Different rooms put different demands on the floor. Here's what we usually recommend across Auckland homes, and why. If you're stuck between two options, send through the room dimensions and what you've got in mind. Ethan or one of the team will come back with a recommendation.

Kitchen & Open-Plan Living

Porcelain. Kitchen floors take a lot: dropped pots, water, oil, foot traffic, dog claws. Porcelain handles all of it and cleans up easily. Larger formats (600x600 and up) suit open-plan kitchens because there are fewer grout lines to clean. Honed-finish porcelain reads like stone without the maintenance. Open-plan living rooms generally take the same tile as the kitchen, since most homeowners don't want a tile change at the threshold. If you're running underfloor heating, tile is the most efficient finish to put over it.

Bathroom

Porcelain on the floor, with the tile choice tied to the wall and shower design. We waterproof under every bathroom floor we lay, and we'll talk you through slip ratings. Bathroom floors should be R10 or better, and shower floors usually want R11. Mosaics work well in shower bases because the small tiles let the floor fall into the drain without lipping.

Hallway

Porcelain or natural stone, depending on the look. Hallways carry the most foot traffic in the house, so durability matters more than anywhere else. Long-format planks work well in narrow hallways and continue the floor visually into adjoining rooms.

Outdoor

Outdoor-rated porcelain or natural stone, both with a non-slip finish. Outdoor tiles need to handle UV, frost, rain and pool chemicals where relevant. We tile patios, alfresco areas, courtyards, pool surrounds and outdoor steps, and we match the outdoor tile to the indoor floor where the design calls for it.

OUR PROCESS

Our floor tiling process in Auckland

Four steps, in the same order, on every job - followed by a clean handover.

01

Consultation

We visit the site and look at the space. We talk through tile choices, layout, subfloor condition, waterproofing requirements and timing. If your tiles are coming through The Tile Room, we coordinate the supply directly. You get a written, itemised quote and a clear start date.

02

Preparation

Floor tiling lives or dies in the prep. We level the subfloor, lay waterproofing in wet areas, and set out the tile pattern before anything is fixed down. Wet areas are signed off under our PS3 authorship to E3/AS1 and AS/NZS 4858.

03

Installation

Tiles go down to the agreed pattern, with levels checked as we go. Cuts around drains, vanities, doorways and stair nosings are done by hand. Our crew works clean and tidies the site at the end of each day.

04

Grouting & Sealing

We grout the joints in the colour you've picked, or help you choose one if you haven't. Stone and porous tiles get sealed before we hand over.

05

Handover

The floor is ready to use when we're done. The work is covered by our 10-year workmanship guarantee, activated on handover.

MATERIALS

Floor Tile Materials We Install

Ceramic

Ceramic is the affordable option, with a wide range of colours and finishes. It handles low to moderate traffic well, which suits laundries, guest bathrooms and smaller kitchens. In Auckland villas it's commonly used in secondary wet areas where the budget needs to stretch.

Porcelain

Porcelain is denser and harder than ceramic, which makes it the right choice for high-traffic areas, wet zones and outdoor use. It resists staining and frost. Most of the kitchens, hallways and main bathrooms we tile across Auckland use porcelain, often in 600x600 or larger formats to keep grout lines down.

Natural Stone

Marble, limestone, travertine, slate. Stone isn't uniform, it can chip during cutting, and the layout has to be planned around the veining. We've spent years getting good at it, and the difference shows up in the corner cuts and how veins line up across the joins.

Mosaic

Small-format tiles set on a mesh backing. Mosaics work as feature floors in showers, powder rooms and entryways, and they're useful for curved or shaped areas where larger tiles can't sit flat.

Terracotta

Fired clay tiles with a warm, earthy finish. Terracotta needs sealing to perform properly and works best in lower-traffic areas like sunrooms, internal courtyards and hallways with the right aesthetic.

Custom tile

Do you have an idea in mind and want a flexible tiler for bathrooms? Cutting Edge Tiling works with The Tile Room to create custom solutions tailored to your space.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Client Feedback

★★★★★ 5.0 on Google

We had a fantastic experience with Ethan and Alan with Cutting Edge Tiling. They did the kitchen flooring and extensive splashback. Great work and lovely people to work with. Totally recommend.

Karen Waldie Google review

Really professional. Freddy did my job. His eye for detail and symmetry was outstanding. When he was not happy...he lifted the tiles and started again. I didn't have to say anything...he knew when it needed adjustment and worked accordingly. I highly recommend this company. Plus, with Freddy's hard work, the job that was scheduled for 8 days took only 6. That's impressive and so are my new kitchen, bathroom, and ranch door area tiles. Well done Freddie, and thank you Stephen and Ethan...you are cutting edge!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get asked most often on Auckland floor tiling projects.

  • Most residential floor tiling jobs take three to seven working days, depending on the area, the tile and the prep required. A standard bathroom floor is usually one to two days. A full open-plan kitchen and living floor in natural stone can run a week or more. We give you a written timeline with the quote and we keep you updated if anything on site changes it.

  • Yes. Every floor we install is covered by a 10-year workmanship guarantee. If something we did goes wrong inside that window, we come back and fix it. The guarantee covers our workmanship; tile manufacturer warranties cover the tile itself and are passed through from The Tile Room.

  • Things change on site, and that's a given. Because we handle tiling, waterproofing and underfloor heating in-house, we can usually adjust on the spot without bringing other trades in. If the change affects scope or cost, we tell you straight away, in writing, before we keep going.

  • Porcelain. It's denser and harder than ceramic, which means it handles foot traffic, dropped objects and cleaning chemicals without showing wear. For commercial floors, large-format porcelain in a matte or textured finish is the most common choice. For residential hallways and open-plan living areas, the same logic applies.

  • We supply tiles through The Tile Room, which means quantities, lead times, delivery and grout colour selection are coordinated through us. You see and feel the tiles in their showroom before you commit, and you don't have to chase a separate supplier. If you've already sourced tiles from elsewhere, we can install those too, just let us know at the quoting stage.

  • Yes. We install underfloor heating in-house alongside the tiling, so the heating system, waterproofing and tile installation are all coordinated by the same team. Tile is the most efficient floor finish to run heating under, because it conducts heat well and holds it. Read more about underfloor heating.

  • Yes. Our workshop is in Silverdale and most of our work runs through the North Shore, Whangaparoa, Warkworth and Mangawhai. We also tile across West Auckland, Central Auckland and the wider region. The team is big enough to take on work further out without slowing down the projects closer to home.
